Jay Chapman founded Capstone Building Corp. in 1997 and currently serves as President. Under his exemplary direction, Capstone has become a leading general contractor in the industry.

With over 40 years of experience in the construction industry, Jay possesses a comprehensive understanding of every facet of the business, from day-to-day operations to long-term strategy. His personal, hands-on management style and commitment to Capstone’s clients, employees, and culture have driven 28 years of exceptional performance and satisfaction. Jay realizes his commitment to every project and client is just as crucial as the employees on the job. He makes certain that every member of his team is equipped with the knowledge, plans, and tools they need to complete each project successfully.

Jay is an active member in the industry and currently serves as a member of the Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. of Alabama, the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), and the Association of College and University Housing Officers International (ACUHOI). He is a member of the Birmingham Rotary Club and holds a Merchant Marine / U.S. Coast Guard Captains’ license for 100-ton vessels. He also serves on the Advisory Council for the Tigers Unlimited Foundation at Auburn University. Jay holds general contractor state licenses in Alabama, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and Washington.

Danny Stevens has served as the Executive Vice President of Field Operations with Capstone Building Corp. since 1997 and is an incredible asset to our team. In his role, Danny oversees the planning, organization, staffing and controlling operations of each project, while guiding his project superintendents down the roadmap that is established during the preconstruction process, which then flows into the actual building process.

With nearly four decades of experience in managing complex commercial, industrial, institutional and multifamily construction projects, Danny’s exceptional ability to lead and manage a diverse workforce in challenging environments, both internally and subcontracted, continues to put Capstone Building Corp. at the top of its industry.

Hubert Proctor joined Capstone 21 years ago and currently serves as Director of Construction. In this role, Hubert is responsible for quality control and schedule compliance on his assigned projects. He ensures success through involvement in all operational aspects and by effectively managing a team of superintendents and assistant superintendents. A former United States Marine, Hubert’s respected leadership skills, paired with his technical industry expertise, ensure Capstone’s operations consistently meet the highest standards of excellence.

Hubert’s previous experience as Building Inspector, Chief Building Official, and Community Development Director for several counties in South Carolina has honed his ability to manage large teams, enforce building codes, and maintain compliance with safety standards, allowing him to further showcase his proficiency in urban planning, inspection, and regulatory processes.

Hubert is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Building Official Association of South Carolina, the American Association of Code Enforcement Officials, the National Association of Home Builders, and the International Code Council. His certifications include Building Inspector, Plumbing Inspector, Property Maintenance & Housing Inspector, Zoning and Property Standards Inspector, Housing and Rehabilitation Code Enforcement Officer, and Fire Inspector Levels 1 and 2. These credentials reflect his dedication to helping Capstone Building maintain the highest standards of safety, compliance, and excellence in the construction industry.

Josh Barnett has been with Capstone for over nine years, starting as a Project Manager and currently serving as Vice President of Project Management. In this role, Josh collaborates with development owners and subcontractors to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. Drawing on his diverse construction experience, Josh oversees project set-up and buyout, cost control, schedule compliance, field personnel management, and the cultivation of key project partnerships.

Brandon Loyd joined Capstone 24 years ago and currently serves as Vice President of Project Management. Throughout his tenure, Brandon has gained a comprehensive understanding of the industry’s multi-faceted demands, with hands-on experience in project management, estimating, and field operation.

Joe May joined Capstone in 2005 and currently serves as Vice President of Project Management and Senior Project Manager. In this role, Joe collaborates with development owners and subcontractors to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. His responsibilities include project buyouts, cost control, field personnel oversight, and fostering key project partnerships. Joe is also a shareholder in Capstone Building Corp. With extensive experience in the construction industry, he has earned the respect of his peers and was honored in the Birmingham Business Journal’s 2021 Top 40 Under 40 class.

His responsibilities include project buyouts, cost control, field personnel oversight, and fostering key project partnerships. With a diverse background in project management, estimating, and field operations, Blake has successfully delivered over $550 million in multifamily construction projects since 2012. In addition, Blake is a shareholder in Capstone Building Corp., underscoring his commitment to the company’s success.

Preston Smith joined Capstone 12 years ago, starting as a Project Engineer and advancing through roles including Assistant Superintendent, Estimator, and Senior Estimator to his current position as Vice President of Preconstruction Services. In this role, Preston drives Capstone’s growth and oversees the development and coordination of project estimates from the conceptual design stage through completion, all while managing risk, client communication, and long-term subcontractor partnerships. A recognized industry leader, Preston has earned accolades from the Birmingham Business Journal and Business Alabama AGC’s Top 40Under 40 and is a shareholder in Capstone.

Spencer Wise joined Capstone Building Corp. in 2023 and serves as the Chief Financial Officer. His responsibilities include all aspects of financial management, including cash management, forecasting, risk mitigation. operational efficiency, strategic planning and financial reporting and analysis. Prior to joining Capstone, Spencer provided auditing and consulting services at regional accounting firms for over 13 years to a variety of industries, including affordable housing development and construction. A graduate of the University of Alabama with a degree in Accounting and Finance, Spencer is also a Certified Public Accountant in the state of Alabama, underscoring a commitment to excellence and continuous professional development.

Jason Long joined Capstone in 2024 as Vice President of Human Resources & Risk Management, bringing over 20 years of experience in driving organizational excellence through strategic HR leadership. In his current role, Jason provides executive oversight of safety programs, contractual insurance, employee compensation, and benefits administration, ensuring the company attracts and retains top talent. He leads recruitment efforts, oversees training and development initiatives, and drives performance-based compensation strategies, reinforcing Capstone’s commitment to operational excellence and employee engagement.

As a certified HR professional with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Auburn University, Jason has completed advanced training in leadership assessment, collective bargaining, and organizational health. He is passionate about aligning people strategies with business objectives and actively contributes to professional networks and community initiatives, embodying a leadership philosophy centered on innovation, integrity, and long-term success.
