Jay Chapman - PresidentJay Chapman is the President & Chief Executive Officer of Capstone Building Corp. and founded the company in 1997. Under his leadership, Capstone Building Corp. has become a leading general contractor in the multifamily industry with completed projects from coast to coast. Capstone Building Corp. concentrates on upmarket apartment homes, student housing and condominiums across the U.S.

As President & CEO, Jay serves not only as the customer advocate, but his “hands-on” management style brings tremendous value and insight to his clients as well. Jay has learned every aspect of the construction industry through practical experience with over 30 years of experience in the construction industry. As the liaison to each developer, he ensures every project is built to exceed expectations. His commitment to each project is only as good as the employees on the job. Jay makes certain that his employees are equipped with the knowledge, plans and tools needed to complete each project successfully.

Jay is an active member in the industry and currently serves as a member of the Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. of Alabama, the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), the Association of College and University Housing Officers International (ACUHOI) and the Birmingham Rotary Club. He is a booster for Auburn University’s Shug Jordan Society, where he also mentors students in the Building Science Department.

He holds the general contractor state licenses for Alabama, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and Washington.

Danny Stevens - Executive Vice President Field Operations

Danny Stevens - Executive Vice President Field OperationsDanny Stevens has served as the Executive Vice President of Field Operations with Capstone Building Corp. since 1997 and has over 36 years of experience in managing complex commercial, industrial, institutional and residential construction projects. He oversees the planning, organization, staffing and controlling operations of each project Capstone Building Corp. has under construction.  

Danny guides his project superintendents down the roadmap that is established during Capstone Building Corp.’s preconstruction services. These plans move the project into the actual building process. Danny monitors the performance of each project team throughout a project’s life cycle and serves as the final authority on quality.

Relationships are crucial at Capstone Building Corp. and Danny has a long-standing relationship with Jay Chapman, President & CEO of Capstone Building Corp. The duo has successfully completed construction projects together since 1985. Danny's exceptional ability to lead and manage a diverse workforce in challenging environments, both internally and subcontracted, continues to put Capstone Building Corp. at the top of their industry.

Chris Travis - Chief Operating Officer

Chris Travis - Chief Financial OfficerChris Travis joined Capstone Building Corp. in 2002 and he currently serves as Chief Operating Officer. With a background in the manufacturing, accounting and insurance industries, Chris brings both operational and financial leadership to guide Capstone Building Corp. through its day-to-day operations. His responsibilities include owner contract negotiations, risk management, oversight of all legal aspects related to the company, corporate human resource management, accounting and management of the bonding, insurance and banking relationships of Capstone Building Corp., In addition, Chris works with Capstone Building Corp.’s project managers daily to assist them in overcoming issues related to their specific projects.

Chris has served in various roles during his 21-year career prior to joining Capstone Building Corp., including Financial Officer/Assistant Vice President for a large insurance brokerage company, Controller/Vice President for a manufacturing company in Tennessee and Corporate Safety Director for a large industrial pipe and fitting manufacturer in Alabama. Chris received his Masters of Business Administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Alabama and is a Certified Public Accountant for the State of Alabama.

Michael Mummert - Vice President of Preconstruction and Estimating

Michael MummertMichael Mummert joined the Capstone Building Corp. team in 2003 and now serves as Vice President of Preconstruction and Estimating. Michael progressively moved up the ladder from intern, Assistant Superintendent into estimating, where he is responsible for developing and coordinating project estimates through Capstone Building Corp.’s preconstruction services.

From the conceptual design process through the completion of a project, Michael provides open communication with client on up-to-date pricing and constructability feedback throughout each stage. Michael’s advice and consultation aids in directing decisions, maintaining the established budget and minimizing cost escalations.

Previous to his career at Capstone Building Corp., Michael served as Senior Estimator with Venture Homes in Marietta, Ga. Michael received his Bachelor of Science in Building Science from Auburn University. While at Auburn University, Michael interned with Capstone Building Corp. building on a foundation of construction management skills. He holds a General Contractor’s License in Georgia.
